Useful java Logging link

by David Kowis on Nov.25, 2007, under Java

I’ve found this link to actually explain how to use the Java Logging apis. It’s quite good.

The API’s are missing a few convience methods that I liked from log4j, but they’re not that difficult to migrate. The Logging framework is quite robust and it’s easy to apply run time configuration stuffs. So you can code up the junk and deploy it, tweak a configuration file, viola, no more FINEST logging messages. Yeah, FINEST is something different. There’s FINE, FINER, and FINEST. Those are like what you’d use for DEBUG. Beyond that you can decide what you want to show the users and such. Anyways, this article actually explained the thing to me to the extent that I was able to figure it out :)

Best spam mail ever

by David Kowis on Nov.20, 2007, under Funneh!, Source Mage

spam for spam!

It’s spam for spam! I didn’t understand Russian and so sent it to Enqlave on #sourcemage on irc.freenode.net. I suspected, however, that it was spam for spam. Stuff traveling from one computer through the “cloud” and to another computer. Had to be email spam. Well, mostly because the only other kinds of spam (pen15, pr0n, stock scams) it wasnt ;)

Minerva: Metastasis

by David Kowis on Nov.01, 2007, under Games, W00t!

This mod built by Adam Foster is quite probably the best single player mod out there for Half-life: 2. It’s got an unbelievably engrossing storyline. Even though there’s no fancy voice-over’s or anything like that. Just simple “modem” text messages. And yet that provides an excessively deep storyline. Also the scale of the facility is emphasized often. The levels aren’t really that massive, but they hint at things unseen. Also, you get the idea that Minerva isn’t telling you everything. Which only adds to the story. The levels are fantastically designed. Especially when the “big event” happens, to avoid too much of a spoiler :). It’s It’s an absolutely awesome mod. Get it and play it. You won’t regret it.
